Ratings checked on October 9–16, 2026. The Google and Trustpilot columns show the rating followed by the number of reviews; EA = Enrolled Agent. Ratings and BBB grades change often, so check the source before you decide. “Founded” uses the year the firm publishes, or the BBB start year when it doesn’t publish one. “Refund” is the money-back window the firm publishes. “Not published” or “Not stated” means we couldn’t find it on the firm’s website.

Everett, Marysville and the North Sound
We found few dedicated tax resolution firms north of Seattle with enough reviews to include; many local offices are tax preparers. Seattle Legal Services has an office in Lynnwood, and the IRS has a Taxpayer Assistance Center in Everett.
Tacoma, Olympia and Kitsap County (Bremerton)
Tax Resolution and Representation is in Normandy Park, between Seattle and Tacoma. We found no dedicated tax resolution firm in Tacoma, Olympia or Bremerton with enough reviews to include. The IRS has Taxpayer Assistance Centers in Tacoma and Olympia, and the Washington Department of Revenue is headquartered in Tumwater.

Priority Tax Relief has an office in Spokane, and Instant Tax Solutions lists a Spokane location. Precision Tax Relief is based just across the state line in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Washington-Specific Tax Relief Insights
Washington has no personal income tax, so for most individuals in Washington, tax debt means IRS debt. State tax debt usually comes from business taxes such as the business and occupation (B&O) tax and sales and use tax, plus the state’s capital gains and estate taxes, all collected by the Washington Department of Revenue. The Department can file tax warrants that act as liens and levy bank accounts, and it offers payment plans for qualifying balances. An IRS agreement does not cover a Washington balance.
Tax Attorney or Tax Relief Company?
Many people search for a tax attorney when they get an IRS notice. For most collection problems (back taxes, payment plans, liens, levies and wage garnishments), an Enrolled Agent or CPA can represent you before the IRS just like an attorney can. A tax attorney is usually worth it if you face possible criminal exposure, tax court litigation, or complex business or estate issues. Several firms on this list have Enrolled Agents, CPAs and attorneys on the same team.
Free Tax Help in Washington
If you owe less than $10,000, or only owe state tax, you may not need a paid firm at all:
- Washington Department of Revenue: payment plans and help for Washington business and excise tax debt (which we don’t handle on its own).
- IRS payment plans: many people can set up an installment agreement online in minutes.
- Taxpayer Advocate Service: free, independent help inside the IRS when a problem isn’t getting solved.
- Low Income Taxpayer Clinics: free or low-cost representation if you qualify.

Frequently Asked Questions
Check four things before you sign: who will work your case (an Enrolled Agent, CPA or tax attorney who can represent you before the IRS), whether you get a written fee quote upfront, the refund policy, and recent reviews on Google, Trustpilot and BBB. Be careful with any company that promises a specific settlement before it has reviewed your IRS transcripts.
Not necessarily. Most IRS representation happens by phone, mail and the IRS e-Services system, and a power of attorney (Form 2848) works in every state. A local firm helps if you want to meet in person; a remote firm can work just as well for most collection cases.
Washington has no personal income tax, but the Washington Department of Revenue collects business and occupation (B&O) tax, sales and use tax, and the state’s capital gains and estate taxes. For most individuals, tax debt in Washington is IRS debt; state tax debt is more common for business owners.
The Washington Department of Revenue offers payment plans for qualifying balances. You can request one through your My DOR account or by contacting the Department. Filing any missing excise tax returns first usually makes approval easier.
Yes. The Department can file a tax warrant, which acts as a lien on your property, and it can levy bank accounts or other assets for unpaid state tax. State and IRS debts are handled separately, so an IRS payment plan does not stop Washington collection.
Only alongside an IRS case. If you owe only Washington state tax, such as B&O or sales tax, contact the Washington Department of Revenue directly or a local firm that handles state tax, which is usually the faster and cheaper route.
Most firms don’t publish prices. Ask for a written quote that lists what is included, whether the fee is flat or phased, and what happens if the IRS rejects the proposed solution. For balances under $10,000, an IRS payment plan you set up yourself is often the cheapest option.
Yes. You can set up many IRS payment plans online for free, the Taxpayer Advocate Service helps when an IRS problem isn’t getting solved, and Low Income Taxpayer Clinics offer free or low-cost representation if you qualify.
The IRS generally has 10 years from the date a tax is assessed to collect it. That deadline is your Collection Statute Expiration Date, and your IRS account transcript shows it. The Washington Department of Revenue collects state tax debt under its own state-law timeline, so do not assume a Washington balance expires when a federal one does. Check each balance separately. Calculate your CSED.
A levy means a tax agency has started taking money directly because a balance is unpaid and no payment arrangement is in place. Check the paperwork: an IRS wage levy arrives on Form 668-W and a bank levy on Form 668-A, while a Washington levy comes from the Department of Revenue on its own notice. Each one has to be released separately, so stopping an IRS levy does not stop a Washington one.
Treat them as two separate cases. File every return on time even if you cannot pay, because the failure-to-file penalty runs ten times higher than the failure-to-pay penalty. With the IRS you can request an installment agreement, an Offer in Compromise, or currently not collectible status. The Washington Department of Revenue runs its own payment plans, and an IRS agreement does not cover a Washington balance.
No. Fresh Start is a set of IRS changes, covering easier installment agreements, a higher lien filing threshold and more flexible Offer in Compromise terms, and it applies only to federal tax debt. Washington state tax debt is handled separately by the Washington Department of Revenue under its own rules, so a federal Fresh Start agreement leaves a Washington balance untouched.
Because Washington has no personal income tax, individuals only need to file their missing federal returns. Request your IRS wage and income transcripts to rebuild the missing years, file each year on that year’s own form, and send them in. Business owners may also need to file missing Washington excise tax returns with the Department of Revenue. More on clearing back taxes.
How We Chose These Companies
- We searched Google Maps for tax relief and tax resolution firms in Washington’s largest cities. Firms that focus on resolving IRS and state tax debt are listed first.
- Those firms needed a Google rating of 4.0 or higher with at least 30 reviews. We then checked each firm’s BBB profile, Trustpilot page and website.
- Washington has few dedicated tax resolution firms, so we also listed smaller local practices with fewer reviews or a broader focus, such as tax preparers and accounting firms, and we say what each one mainly does.
- We only included firms with an office in Washington. Precision Tax Relief, which publishes this guide, works with Washington clients remotely.
- We compared founding year, ratings, BBB grade and accreditation, team credentials, pricing transparency and refund policy. Where a firm publishes a minimum debt amount, we note it in that firm’s section rather than the comparison table.
- No firm on this list, including us, publishes an independently audited success rate, so we don’t rank by success rate.
- We excluded listings we couldn’t verify, such as businesses with very few reviews spread across many cities.
